Use of Ilizarov Technique

The Federal State Institution Russian Ilizarov Scientific Center for Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics (RISC RTO) is one of the largest scientific centers in Russia. It specializes in the treatment of orthopaedic diseases and injuries with the unique method of transosseous osteosynthesis and external fixation to provide rehabilitation for patients with severe pathologies of the locomotor system. The center has developed methods for limb lengthening and limb deformity correction, defect management and treatment of congenital and acquired pathology of the foot and ankle.

Dr. Jeffrey Yung and Dr. Benjamin Overley participated and completed an advanced Ilizarov Fellowship training course at the Russian Ilizarov Scientific Center for Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics. Emphasizing the methods of transosseous osteosynthesis with the use of external fixation, Dr. Yung has applied these methods for advanced cases of trauma, reconstructive surgery, pediatric deformities and limb lengthening.
